Batteries & 12V

Batteries and 12V equipment form the storage and low-voltage distribution side of many camper, RV, and portable-power systems. This category explains battery capacity, LiFePO4 chemistry, battery-management systems, charging profiles, monitoring, fuses, disconnects, and common 12V loads.

A battery’s amp-hour rating is only one part of the decision. Compare nominal voltage, usable energy in watt-hours, continuous and surge-current limits, temperature restrictions, cycle-life test conditions, warranty terms, and compatibility with every charger and inverter. Cold-weather charging limits are especially important for LiFePO4 batteries, and an internal BMS does not replace properly selected circuit protection.

Start with our guide to what a LiFePO4 battery is, then use the broader van electrical system guide to see how storage connects with solar, alternator and shore charging. Specifications vary by model, so calculations are examples rather than universal installation instructions. Follow the exact manufacturer documentation and use a qualified professional when conductor sizing, protection, grounding, or high-current connections are outside your experience.
